How do I close the abstract tab to return to the Orbit dashboard?

Written by Faith

When reading articles using the Orbit dashboard, clicking the link under Step 1 opens the abstract in a new browser tab. This allows you to read the article while keeping your Orbit dashboard open in another tab.

Here’s how to return to your Orbit dashboard when you’re done reading:

On desktop

1. Look at the top of your browser window.

You’ll see a row of rectangular “tabs” — each one shows the title of a webpage.

2. Find the abstract tab.

The abstract tab usually says something like the article title or the journal’s name.

In this example, you can see two tabs:

  • Tab 1: Orbit CME - This is your Orbit dashboard

  • Tab 2: A comparison of... - This is the title of the abstract that was opened.

3. Close the abstract tab.

Click the “X” on the abstract tab to close it. This can differ slightly depending on the browser.

  • On Safari, hover your mouse pointer over the tab. The "X" button should appear on the left side of the tab.

  • On Chrome, the "X" button is always present on the right side of the tab.

If you did not click on any other tabs while browsing, you should automatically be returned to the tab with the Orbit dashboard.

If you are not returned to the Orbit dashboard, just click on the tab named Orbit CME.

Be careful not to close your browser window!

Avoid clicking the "X" button at the very top left corner (for Mac Safari) or very top right (Windows or Linux).

On mobile

1. Tap the tabs icon in your browser.
This will show all your open tabs.

  • On iOs Safari, look at the bottom bar. Look for the overlapping squares at the right side of the bar.

  • On mobile Chrome, look at the top bar. Look for a square with a number inside on the right side of the bar.

2. Find the abstract tab.

Use the tab screenshot and tab title to find the right tab. Tab title will either be the article title or the journal’s name.

3. Close the abstract tab.

Tap the "X" button (usually on the upper right side of the tab).

4. Tap the Orbit CME tab.

This brings you right back to your dashboard so you can continue browsing and reading articles.

What's a browser tab?

A tab is like a separate page within your internet browser. Think of it like folder tabs — you can click or tap each one to quickly switch between pages without closing the others.

How is it different from a browser window?

Using the same folder example, the window is the main folder that holds all your tabs.

Tabs let you keep several pages open within one window.

If you opened each page in its own window instead, your computer or phone would fill up with many open screens — and your desktop taskbar would look very crowded!
