ABPath CME requirements
To maintain your pathology certification with the American Board of Pathology (ABP) you will need to participate in the Continuing Certification (CC) program.
You can find a breakdown of all the CC program requirements here. To help you get started, we've digested that information into a quick overview.
What CME do I need to earn for the Continuing Certification (CC) Program?
As part of the LifeLong Learning requirement of the CC program you will need to:
- Earn 70 Category 1 CME credits every 2 years.
- 56 of the 70 CME credits you earn need to be within your scope of practice
- The other 14 CME credits can be in general relevance to medicine
How can I earn my Pathology CME credit?
- You can claim 60 CME credits for successfully completing an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) examination.
- You may also claim 5 CME credits for completing your ABP CertLink (ABPCL) requirements.
- You can earn all your required Category 1 CME credits with Orbit Pathology.
There are many free and paid options to earn CME credits, but most of them are fragmented and time consuming. Only some options allow you to earn all of your CC required CME credits in one place. If you're trying to earn all of your CC-required CME in one place, you might want to check out Orbit Pathology. It lets you earn all of your ABPath-required credit by reading journal abstracts and articles of your choice, conveniently on your desktop, iPhone, or iPad.
